Successive iterations of the CMO+CCO Meter have found an emerging correlation between the business impact of communications and the degree of turmoil in external and internal environments. Uncertainty in policy, economy, society, and technology has been particularly pronounced over the last six months; communications has taken a lead in managing uncertainty’s impact on the business.

Key Insights

Expectations of change have charged communications. In C-Suite Outlook 2025: Seizing the Future, CEOs note that the biggest external factors expected to influence business over the course of the year are US-EU-China tensions and a potential economic downturn. Operational resilience and talent management are the top internal focus points. In the months since the survey was conducted in November 2024, political and economic uncertainty have grown.
