Both marketing and communications leaders’ top-two priorities are developing a strategy for their teams to foster business growth and inspiring their team, according to our CMO+CCO Meter survey in September/October 2024. However, there are subtle differences between marketing and comms executives regarding priorities when leading their respective teams.
Marketing leaders focus more than their comms colleagues on measuring their team’s impact and reporting it to senior leadership and the board. Communications leaders place more emphasis on upskilling their teams—especially in AI—and building a collaborative, inclusive culture for their teams. These differing team leadership plans reflect the different responsibilities and current strategic priorities of chief marketing officers (CMOs) and chief communications officers (CCOs).
