To ensure a sustainable talent pool to meet both short-term and long-term workforce demands, employers across the country are recognizing that they can—and should—play an active stakeholder role. Given the rate at which technology, and specifically AI, is changing the nature of work, the issue of aligning education and training with in-demand skills has never been more urgent.

Clearly, there are many questions about how AI will impact different aspects of our lives. We know that the time is now to prepare students at the K-12 and postsecondary levels to succeed in an AI world. Employers can develop partnerships with education institutions to create a pipeline of talent to fill future AI-based jobs. The creation of a public-private partnership approach in addressing workplace demand is one strategic approach. In fact, employers are contributing to innovative thinking about how to build preparedness for the work world of AI, and those efforts must be accelerated.
