Peter G. Peterson Business Statesmanship Award

The Business Statesmanship Award was established in honor of Peter G. Peterson, CED's longest-serving Trustee. It recognizes corporate executives who champion issues in the interest of the public good, rather than their company or personal interests, and who hold themselves to the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

In an article that appeared in The Washington Post in 2004, Mr. Peterson asked where had all the "Business Patriots" gone. He remarked that too few corporate CEOs were actively engaging in public policy debates to ensure the country's collective long-term growth and viability. He highlighted Jeff Immelt of General Electric as a CEO who put emphasis on long-term goals and the public's needs as part of GE's business strategy. Immelt was the inaugural recipient of the Business Statesmanship Award in 2005.

Corporate Citizenship Award

The Corporate Citizenship Award is presented annually to a company that demonstrates a strong commitment to corporate responsibility practices and whose leaders are actively engaged in supporting and expanding those efforts. The award highlights companies that integrate relevant societal concerns into their core operating strategies and embrace them as positive for businesses, customers, employees and their communities.

This Award aligns with CED's work in corporate governance and sustainable capitalism, specifically our recommendations for greater corporate engagement and more enlightened notions of self-interest to business decision makers.
