Deep Dive Exchange Series: Labor Strife in China - Anticipating Stress Points, Preparing to Respond

On Thursday, March 10, 2016, in Shanghai, The Conference Board China Center convened one of its biannual Deep Dive Exchanges, this time titled “Labor Strife in China: Anticipating Stress Points, Preparing to Respond.” Over 25 senior-most China (or Asia) HR, legal, and government relations executives attended the half-day event. Delegates heard from experts from The Conference Board, a panel of member company practitioners, and Susan Munro, a Beijing-based partner at the law firm Steptoe & Johnson who specializes in China labor relations.

After the panel discussion, the full group drew on their respective experiences with labor disputes and the shifting policy and legal environment to generate insights around this reemerging challenge. The briefing paper distills the key learnings from the panelists’ presentations and the peer-to-peer discussion.
