Governance & Sustainability Center Briefings

Preparing for California’s Climate Disclosure Laws

Companies doing business in California are facing sweeping new climate disclosure requirements—with legal, operational, and reputational risks for noncompliance. As enforcement and litigation risks grow, understanding whether your company is covered, and how to prepare, is critical.

SB 253 and SB 261 require companies to begin disclosing greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks starting in 2026. As rulemaking progresses and legal challenges emerge, now is the time to prepare.

Join Stacey Sprenkel, partner and leader of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP’s ESG & Sustainability Practice, and Vid Prabhakaran, partner-in-charge of DWT’s San Francisco office, for a discussion on:

  • Overview of SB 253 and SB 261
  • Key 2025 updates on timelines and rulemaking, and court challenges
  • Compliance considerations and preparation steps
  • Live Q&A
