Evolution or Revolution? The Challenges for Truck Electrification

/ Report

A transition to a low-carbon economy, as outlined in our brief US Energy Transition: The Path to Net Zero, will require transportation to be largely electrified within the next three decades. With the adoption of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, and the tax and financial incentives that it has created for many consumers, this transition seems plausible for private electric vehicles. But barriers to the electrification of medium and heavy trucks are much higher and more difficult to overcome.
