The renewable energy transition holds great promise for business:  According to research from The Conference Board, nearly 60% of C-suite executives around the globe say it will be good for their companies, and approximately 70% of both business and consumers factor environmental sustainability into their spending decisions.

At the same time, the transition to renewable energy promises to be expensive, disruptive, politicized, and disorganized.  It will require not only a greater degree of collaboration between the public and private sectors, but also more effective partnerships within the private sector.  For each company, it will have significant implications for business strategy, operations, finance, technology, workforce, investor relations, communications, and governance.

But the transition to renewable energy is also essential.   It is at the heart of reducing GHG emissions, which is central to slowing climate change, which in turn is key to human and environmental health.

You will not want to miss Building a Sustainable Future: The Global Energy Transition, which will be the most comprehensive and insightful event of 2024. Unlike other gatherings, it will feature not only leading speakers from the government and industry, but also confidential, Chatham House Rule roundtable conversations among participants.  By attending and participating in the conversation, you will come away with actionable insights, connections, and an even better game plan for taking advantage of the opportunities created by the global energy transition.

Who Should Attend

  • C-Suite executives
  • Direct reports of the C-Suite
  • The ESG/Sustainability team with their cross-functional partners

By registering now, you can claim your complimentary invitation to the inaugural ESG Leadership Awards dinner on the evening of May 16 at an iconic New York City venue, The University Club.

Do Consumers Actually Care?

The shift toward sustainability is happening because corporate boards and C-suite leaders know it's a good long-term business strategy to reduce environmental and social risk, and because regulators are demanding climate-related reporting. Overshadowing this is increasing consumer willingness to shift their loyalty to brands that emphasize sustainability. This session will feature new research identifying a $44 billion sustainability opportunity for brands. Senior practitioners from key sectors will discuss their focus on consumers and investors.

How Can Boards Add the Most Value?

The Conference Board has found that board members across the globe and CEOs share the same ESG priorities, but that board members are significantly less confident in their companies’ approach to sustainability than the executives leading the charge. This panel will discuss how best to effectively engage the board on sustainability and renewable energy. How can boards add the most value? What does management need to do differently? How should boards adapt?

Mapping the End-to-End Climate and Energy Transition for Your Industry

Making the climate and energy transition goes well beyond the boundaries of your company’s office walls. Making progress means engaging the entire value chain and understanding the unique energy needs, emission sources, and footprint of your industry. It also means taking advantage of the positive contributions your industry can make to enable others to advance the energy transition and/or adapt to a changing climate. This session will discuss how companies should look at their energy and climate transition plan from the perspective of their industry.

How Can You Tell Your Energy Story More Effectively?

Against the backdrop of increasingly proscriptive regulatory requirements, ESG backlash, skepticism about greenwashing, how can companies convey their sustainability stories in general – and their renewable energy strategy in particular – in a way that resonates with key audiences? ESG Leadership Awards Dinner

The Conference Board is delighted to present the inaugural ESG Leadership Awards dinner. Held on May 16th in New York City, this celebration honors organizations that have moved beyond their public sustainability commitments and have integrated sustainability into their business, making a positive impact on the company, stakeholders, society at large, and the environment.

By shining a light on exemplary companies, The Conference Board inspires the broader business community to follow in their footsteps. Importantly, the dinner will provide support to The Conference Board’s programming and publications specifically focused on a key challenge facing corporations today: defining and determining the ROI of ESG.

With companies’ sustainability efforts under intense scrutiny from investors, regulators, and others—and as companies move forward in integrating sustainability into their business—it’s critical to understand what kinds of returns are generated by their sustainability efforts.

The Conference Board’s programming and publications stemming from this initiative will provide valuable insights on:

  • Defining what qualifies as a sustainability initiative.
  • Determining what kind of ROIs companies want to calculate.
  • Understanding the purposes of calculating ROI and methods of calculating ROI, including those that:
    • Are relatively direct to measure (such as cost savings and revenue enhancement);
    • Result from improvements in the company’s position in labor markets, capital markets, and products/services markets; and
    • Stem from more systemic improvements in terms of reductions in environmental and social risk.
  • Identifying ways that companies can best communicate, both internally and externally, the ROI of sustainability.
