Government Relations Executives Council

Government’s involvement in the economy, specifically, and society, in general, has grown enormously in recent years.  As a result, so has the role – and the skill set required - of government relations executives. In the past, company lobbyists were akin to a door to door salesman “selling” preferred government policies one-on-one to government officials on behalf of their employers. Today’s government affairs executive does that and much, much more.  He or she must be a strategist, a political analyst and a communications expert. More than advocating policy, a government affairs executive must manage his or her organization’s entire reputation among stakeholders who can make or break a company with the stroke of a pen.

This Council is dedicated to helping its members rise to the growing challenges of their evolving profession. Among the topics on which the Council focuses are:

  • Legislative and regulatory strategy
  • Political strategy
  • Communications strategies, including advertising, social media and traditional media relations
  • Grassroots advocacy
  • PAC management
  • Alliance building
  • Economic analysis
  • Identifying emerging political, economic and social trends
  • Quantifying and promoting the value of government relations internally

In sum, the Government Relations Council offers its members insights and knowledge that keep them at the leading edge of the professional expertise required to succeed in this increasingly critical corporate function.

Why join the Government Relations Executives Council?

One real advantage of the council is that its size is smaller in scope so you really get to know the people that you are spending time with and really get to learn from them in a close knit environment.
