Knowledge can be a company's most critical asset. Today, however, companies can surrender much of that valuable knowledge to an AI bot with a single click.
Traditionally, boards have taken a fragmented – and somewhat technical -- approach to protecting a company’s knowledge base. They have focused on areas such as data security and privacy, and not always with great success. For example, only 43 percent of CEOs and 45 percent of board members feel well prepared for a cybersecurity crisis.
The advent of generative AI may change that. With 63% of directors and 73% of Chief Legal Officers believing AI will increase their company’s risk, it may be time for corporate boards to take a fresh and more comprehensive look at how their companies are protecting the company’s knowledge base that resides with the company’s workforce, databases, and intellectual property assets.
This Center Briefing, which will be held under the Chatham House Rule, will explore the roles of the board in:
We will discuss what, if any, changes in board composition, structure, processes, and fluency may be necessary to help directors fulfill those roles.
The Conference Board Governance & Sustainability Center (ESG) Center Center Briefing discussions bring business leaders and others together to discuss timely, strategic issues under the Chatham House Rule, generating actionable insights for participants and their organizations. Participating in this Center Briefing is an exclusive benefit for our Governance & Sustainability Center Members. There is no fee associated with this program.
