Shareholder Voting Trends (2018-2022): Brief 1

/ Report

Environmental and Climate-Related Proposals

While climate-related disclosure dominated the 2022 proxy season, health-related lobbying has replaced climate-related lobbying in the red zone of high overall risk

Investor focus on ESG is accelerating: 2022 has seen the highest volume of shareholder proposals in the last five years, driven by a growth in environmental and social proposals. Companies in the Russell 3000 had received 813 proposals as of mid-July, of which 471 were E&S. One out of four voted resolutions on climate-related disclosure gained majority support at annual shareholder meetings—an unprecedented performance for this proposal type.
