The U.S. economy has grown slowly in the last few months as a result of both domestic and global headwinds. The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for the United States increased 0.2 percent in October 2012, following a 0.5 percent rise in September. These levels signal a slow growth trend for the U.S. economy. The six-month growth rate has slowed substantially, but it still remains in growth territory due to positive contributions from the housing and financial components. The Federal Reserve’s easing of monetary policy is fueling the rise of the financial components of the index.
