Only 29% of U.S. C-suite executives rate their boards’ effectiveness as good or excellent, according to a survey conducted by PwC and The Conference Board. Executives are dissatisfied with who is on the board, what knowledge they bring, and how they engage in the boardroom.
The survey finds that nearly 9 out of 10 executives say they want one or more directors on the board to be replaced, only 50% say their board understands how technology affects their business, and just 33% percent say their boards are asking probing questions.
Join Paul Washington, Executive Director of the Governance & Sustainability Center, and Carin Robinson, Director at the PwC Governance Insights Center, and a panel of directors and executives to discuss the results of the survey and how to address the gap between management’s expectations and board performance, including:
What does management think of board effectiveness, composition, expertise, knowledge, and contributions in the boardroom?
How does that vary by company size, industry, and executive position?
Why hasn’t the gap narrowed over time?
How much of the “effectiveness” gap is real vs. perceived?
How can boards and management work together to the gaps through board recruitment and refreshment, education, evaluations, and stakeholder engagement?
How do you get started in raising the subject of the survey results with your board?
