The China Challenge: Trade and Investment Solutions

China is the United States’ principal economic and strategic competitor, and the relationship between the two countries is increasingly complex. The webcast will take a wide-ranging look at U.S./China trade and investment relations including:

  • The trade deficit and concerns regarding investment in both directions across the Pacific.
  • The need to develop more resilient supply chains including for critical minerals and other inputs for which the US depends heavily on China.
  • Competition with China, including the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative and what the US can do to promote high standards in trade.
  • The need for renewed US leadership in trade, including rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership, possibilities for reshoring and the impact of “friendshoring” – all while working to find ways to work with China in bilateral relations and issues of global importance and avoid the further splitting of the world into economic blocs.
