The Conference Board Council for Diversity in Business met in The Hague to examine new career models and effective approaches to gender-balanced leadership. Based on discussions and presentations from the two-day meeting, this report reflects the insights, concerns, and questions of the diversity and inclusion leaders who participated.
Fresh approaches to D&I are being developed to help businesses attract and retain the best talent, and more specifically to advance women into top leadership positions. Yet major hurdles remain. Cultivating new career models and fostering more gender-balanced leadership require an inclusive corporate mind-set and the will to move beyond the status quo.
Achieving greater gender balance in top corporate positions requires CEO leadership and support from the senior management team. Making high-profile “risky” appointments of women is important, and women need to be encouraged to apply.
