Since the Levees Broke: A Snapshot of New Orleans
  • Publication Date:
    August 2011

Authored by Susan Stewart in cooperation with The Conference Board Contributions Council.

The massive level of disaster that hit New Orleans in 2005 unearthed a complex set of problems in the city: poverty, education, health care, and the environment, among others. Every city has these problems, but New Orleans' unique circumstances and history required equally unique solutions. Corporate contributions in the years since have not only tackled rebuilding, but have fundamentally addressed these issues and created opportunities for innovation, often through collaboration, in a city that so badly needs its soft and hard infrastructure reformed.

Members of The Conference Board Contributions Council toured New Orleans to learn about the vast amount of coordinated efforts, partnerships, and projects at work to both rebuild the city and better prepare it for the future.
