Tighter Mobility and Socioeconomic Controls at the City Level Will Likely Feature in the China's Post-Coronavirus Business Environment
There is high plausibility that the post coronavirus crisis will see Chinese cities become more autonomous and intracity mobility become more controlled, possibly for a prolonged period. This phenomenon – a function of historic and contemporary social control impulses plus severe economic stress – would have major strategic implications for MNCs in China across market operations, supply chain and workforce planning dimensions. This contingency should be appropriately envisioned and included in strategic planning.
