The pandemic-driven trend to work, study, and socialize more from home has changed spending patterns for categories related to the home, digital communications, and transportation. While US consumer spending on housing and transportation decreased in Q4 2020, these essential expenses may increase in the second half of the year as vaccinations roll out and the economy rebounds.
