Rethinking the Innovation Potential of Occupations: Introducing a Cross-functional Dashboard (Executive Summary)

How can an organization build a culture of innovation that calls upon the strengths of people in every function? As we see it, one way is to distill the essence of “innovation” potential to its core competencies, then to quantify those competencies in a way that best helps create inclusive, innovative teams. We’ve created a new metric, the Innovation Potential of Occupations Dashboard, that helps leaders better identify the potential contribution various occupations—even those not traditionally considered “innovative”—can make to an innovative team. The report identifies 12 competencies that contribute to innovation potential and, by extension, successful innovation teams.
