The latest edition of this benchmarking survey reached over 100 participants—more than double the number from 2016. The analysis finds that companies are bolstering their corporate communications teams by increasing their size and filling open positions; however, without a commensurate increase in budget sizes, companies might be filling their communications teams with lower-paid employees who don’t necessarily bring important expertise, such as data skills. Also, storytelling and content creation are becoming important responsibilities for many corporate communications teams, as companies seek to capture the attention of stakeholders with values-based communications.
