Employers continue to be a big part of the health care system—presidential politics and the fate of the Affordable Care Act aside—providing health care to more than half the US population. Employers still want to lower costs, but instead of cutting benefits, they’re targeting population health. When employers succeed in improving employees’ health, it’s a win-win: they gain a more energized workforce, and cost savings follow. Information technology and apps abound for helping employees navigate the health care system and improve their health.
