Women Advance Slowly But Surely in Top Management Ranks

Managerial mindset, including such misconceptions as women are too aggressive/not aggressive enough, are unwilling to relocate, or are not as committed to their jobs once they have children, are barriers to the advancement of women. Other barriers include lack of leadership resources.

Some companies have sponsored leadership retreats encouraging open dialogue, established diversity councils to promote initiatives to advance women, and begun to require the creation of diversity plans that are tied to compensation. These strategies tend to succeed when strengthened by participation and accountability of senior management.
