Corporate Volunteerism: How Families Make a Difference

Participants in a study on involving family in corporate volunteering programs report that including family members in corporate volunteer projects improves the company's image in the community, as well as employee morale. Participation helps to break down barriers among employees, reinforce teamwork, and build commitment. Projects provide "quality" time for family interaction, as well as
learning opportunities and positive role models for children. Results show that a family volunteer program requires leadership, personal communication, careful planning, coordination, and monitoring to achieve maximum impact. The report outlines the steps needed to create and manage a program.
