This chart shows time allocation patterns of Chinese and American individuals for work, leisure, and home production. In general, Chinese people spend comparatively equal time on the job, but much less on leisure and more on home production. However, Chinese time allotments have been converging to American levels, with a marked fall in hours for home production. This shift is important as a decrease in home production can release latent demand for market substitutes to replace previously home-produced services.
