No Company Is an Island: Building Resilient Communities

Building an effective resilience program is challenging—it requires building relationships with a diverse set of organizations in the community, building trust with nontraditional partners, and a willingness to share information about preparedness plans and vulnerabilities.

In 2012, The Conference Board convened a series of workshops jointly with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to learn how companies are working to increase resilience. This report summarizes the first workshop, held in Boston in April 2012, which focused on how the resilience of individual companies depends on other public and private stakeholders in the community and how companies can become more resilient by working cooperatively with organizations that manage critical infrastructure.
