When leaders in an organization are grappling with important questions of strategy, organization design, HR policies, or IT infrastructure, it is worth thinking carefully about which elements of a question should be addressed by which set of tools. What sort of answer will management science provide? When do disagreements bump against fundamental tenets of faith? When is philosophical reasoning the best way to reach a workable compromise?
