Strategic Risk Management Council

Risk taking has never been more critical for successful decision-making. The role that ERM leaders play inside companies enables business leaders to understand the level of risk they are taking for the return they receive. Understanding a corporate risk culture, emerging risks and key risk indicators provides valuable insights for management.  ERM integration across functions and businesses units is critical to help drive better resource allocation and decision making. The Council on Strategic Risk Management provides ERM professionals with the opportunity to discuss these issues and current best practices openly and in a confidential setting.

The power of peer learning

Enduring relationships with trusted peers in an international network are the core of the council experience. Enhanced by our global, enterprise-wide reach, these relationships span the world and extend the value of council membership. Confidential peer dialogues at meetings and in between provide you with a broader perspective and shared experiences, as well as access to specific knowledge and best practices.

Council membership benefits

Participants and their companies could benefit from an exchange of best practice and networking. Some benefits to participants include learning how other companies integrate different types of risk, creating a risk-aware culture, and providing your board of directors the right information on risks and how they are being managed. Companies will benefit from understanding how to organise risk management departments, how risk management and internal audit work together, and how rating agencies and investors consider companies’ risk management in their decisions.

Who should join?

Senior executives in charge of enterprise risk management or corporate risk champions are eligible.

Why join the Strategic Risk Management Council?

If you are in groups that are industry-based, there is a risk of group-think, there is a risk of not thinking outside the box. I find it interesting to listen to what is energizing businesses that are so different to mine, because it can translate or at least cause you to ask a question, “have we even considered this?”

The Conference Board Councils focuses on the building of relationships and the leveraging of those relationships after the meeting. The meetings give me a chance to not only build these peer relationships, but discuss the material I have access to with my company’s membership.
