4th Annual Innovation Master Class

Building Capability to Fuel Core, Adjacent and Transformative Innovation
JUNE 08 - 09, 2016 | 3M INNOVATION CENTER | MAPLEWOOD, MN

June 08 - 09, 2016

Had any “aha” moments lately? More importantly, has your company?

We all search for that electrifying moment when a big idea materializes, creating a spark that inspires people to do something truly new.  Sometimes, the result changes the way we live. (Think about “aha” moments the next time you are online shopping, using your smartphone, or taking an Uber.)

The Conference Board Innovation Master Class is in the business of “aha” moments. Now in our fourth year, we help senior-level practitioners drive innovation by exposing them to advanced discoveries, leadership strategies, and new processes and tools.

Taking place in 3M’s renowned Innovation Center, this gathering is big enough to ensure breadth of industry, function, and topic, but small enough to encourage candor and camaraderie. It’s truly a class of masters, with presentations from Fortune 1000 firms and other experts, small group discussions, and the kind of networking that can super-charge your innovation capabilities.

As an attendee you will:

  • Get advanced, stress-tested information
  • Gain actionable ideas from leading practitioners who will describe the organizational structures and leadership factors that spark innovation.
  • Learn the latest innovation practices, through presentations by the people who are using them.
  • Receive instant access to a microphone and ample time for interaction with peers and presenters.
  • Go deep on the subjects that interest you most, through breakout groups and pre-conference workshops.
  • Get inspiration from learning what others have overcome on their innovation journey.

Pre-Conference Workshops:

The Hybrid Innovation Engine: Extending Today's Core While Transforming for the Future

June 7, 2016

June 7, 2016
Workshop Registration 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Workshop 1:00 pm – 4:25 pm

How can mature companies protect and extend today’s core business while simultaneously developing tomorrow’s  new businesses? Those who don’t deal effectively with this paradox fall prey to never-ending pendulum swings of failed attempts to drive incremental innovation or new sources of growth.  We need to learn how to move beyond ‘either/or’ mindsets to ‘AND’ mindsets by managing core, adjacent and transformative innovation as an interdependent system. Building this level of innovation capability requires new approaches to portfolio strategies, team structures, internal processes, and external partnering. This interactive workshop provides corporate leaders with new methods to create a hybrid innovation engine for sustainable growth in today’s era of disruption. Through practical frameworks, case studies and interactive exercises, you’ll learn how to:

  • Develop dual-growth strategies and innovation portfolio approaches where core and transformative efforts are additive, rather than simply competing for resources
  • Structure your organization and processes to enable ‘dual operating systems’ with the right balance of integration and separation for core and transformative innovation
  • Engage with startups and entrepreneurs in new co-creation models – move beyond ‘innovation outposts’ to deliver breakthrough results with lower risk
  • Create the right mindsets and culture that can embrace the creative tensions of innovating for today and for tomorrow within the same organization

Innovation Strategy: Fixing Your Growth Gap

June 7, 2016

COMPLIMENTARY
June 7, 2016
Workshop Registration 3:30-4:45
Workshop 4:35-6:30
Reception for Attendees of Workshops 6:30 – 7:15 pm

Most companies face a persistent growth gap – the gap between the growth that your current portfolio will deliver and the growth that investors desire and your strategy assumes. Research has shown that, on average, you are only 20 – 30% accurate in predicting in the success of your growth opportunities. Why is the growth gap so persistent and what can be done to close the gap? This workshop will address these questions and provide you with a tested approach for creating an innovation strategy that will fix your growth gap and protect your business from unseen and unexpected forces of disruption.

Inovo, an expert in innovation growth strategies, will present the results of a benchmarking survey of this conference’s participants that identifies the various innovation strategies used by different companies and how these strategies are created. Inovo will synthesize the survey results and develop key insights for discussion at the workshop. Attendees then will have the opportunity to engage with the workshop facilitators and with each other in a “how to” session that will start you on the road to developing a comprehensive and robust innovation strategy for your company.

All conference-goers are invited to attend this free workshop.  To get the most value from this session, plan to complete the survey that will be sent in advance of the conference.
