Michael Costello is the Total Rewards Commercial Strategy Director at NextEra Energy, Inc. In this role he manages the company’s medical and pharmaceutical benefits and oversees pharmacy benefit managers, direct contracting, workers compensation programs, claims and data analytics. Michael also serves on the board of the Purchaser Business Group on Health (PBGH), where he works with fellow employer leaders to apply data analytics to group purchasing and lower health care costs. 

Before joining NextEra Energy, Michael was the regional director for Tenet Healthcare’s workers compensation business development division. At Tenet he built and maintained a hospital system wide workers compensation service program that allowed claim handlers to efficiently manage claims and align specialty physicians and ancillary services; under his leadership the program coordinated more than 20,000 medical cases each year. He previously served as executive director of operations at MSC (now One Call Care Management), where he developed ancillary programs for employers and injured employees.

Through his leadership at NextEra and his collaborative work with national employer coalitions, Michael brings deep expertise in healthcare data analytics, benefits strategy and workers compensation management to conversations about improving health care value for employees.
