Mats Granryd is a visionary business leader dedicated to creating transformative change for businesses, people, and the planet. He is passionate about building profitable businesses by harnessing the power of connectivity to create a better future for all.

As the former Director General of the GSMA, the global mobile industry association, and with decades of experience from global listed companies, including executive leadership roles at Ericsson and President and CEO of Tele 2. Mats has been a driving force in the global deployment of 5G and IoT and led the mobile industry to become the first industry to commit to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Mats is a strong advocate for business transformation, driving innovation, unlocking new revenue streams and competitive advantages across sectors.

Under his leadership the GSMA championed intelligent connectivity solutions that integrate 5G and AI, empowering industries to create smarter applications, streamline operations, and deliver enhanced customer experience. He also led the industry to launch the GSMA Open Gateway Initiative to unlock the full potential of 5G and open new revenue streams for the industry. In just 2 years, mobile operators representing almost 80% of connections had signed onto the initiative.

Mats is a strong believer in building bridges, bringing people and industries together behind a common cause.

He is deeply committed to achieving digital inclusion for all, bridging the coverage and usage gaps and advocating for unified access to mobile internet for all.

Under his leadership the GSMA launched the Handset Affordability Coalition, Connected Women Commitment Initiative, and co-founded the United Nations EQUALS Global Partnership.

Additionally, Mats serves as a Commissioner for the UN Broadband Commission, is a member of the World Bank Advisory Council on Gender, and a key advisor on the UN’s high level advisory panel for the Early Warning for All (EW4All) initiative. He is also a leader within the BTeam.

Mats currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Vattenfall, Chairman of the Board for Business Sweden and advisor to the GSMA Board.
He is also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering.
