Mario Beccia

Former NATO Deputy CIO

Since January 2026, Mario Beccia is Director for Cybersecurity in a newly established Directorate within the Directorate General DITEC at the Council of the EU, unifying cybersecurity governance, information assurance, and IT risk management. A highly disciplined yet deeply human leader, he advises senior EU officials on digital resilience and represents the institution in key interinstitutional bodies.

Previously Mr Beccia worked as Deputy Chief Information Officer at NATO until 2025. His work modernized NATO’s ICT and established the strategic framework for its cybersecurity posture and technology governance.

Joining in 2006, Mr Beccia helped launching NATO’s Incident Response, IT Modernization, Cloud and Cyber roadmaps. Later, at the NATO C&I Agency Agency (2015), he co-developed Cyber Defense Information exchange programs.

Three years later he joined the European Defence Agency as Chief Information Security Officer where he established the agency’s Cyber Defence program and strengthened its classified information ecosystem.

Mr Beccia managed multinational projects under the PESCO framework before founding the EU Military CERT Conference in 2020. He then returned to NATO as Head of Strategic Support and, in 2022, became Deputy CIO for Cybersecurity, leading a major Cyber Transformation that led to his current role.

He has an MBA in Innovation, an Economics and Management degree, and multiple cybersecurity certifications.

Mr Beccia is married with two children, plays in a band and is passionate about marital arts, computer programming, crypto currencies and electric vehicles.
