Kim Ryan has been with Vanguard for over twenty-one years and currently serves as a Senior Director leading the Data & AI Defense Office within the Chief Data Analytics Office. In this role, Kim oversees critical areas of data and AI defense management, including data identification, de-identification, and deletion. She also leads efforts in supplier defense, ensuring our data is protected when it is sent to suppliers. In addition, she drives the organization’s data and AI governance strategy, ensuring responsible and secure data practices across the enterprise. She stood up Trusted AI Office for Vanguard and plays a critical role in assessing AI systems before they onboard at Vanguard.

Prior to leading the Data Defense team, Kim was a Director in Global Technology Operations leading Service Management for ten years. She was responsible for strategic planning, infrastructure architecture and financial management. In addition, she led the ServiceNow development team, asset management, configuration management, data center services, and managed client communications. In the recent past, Kim has taken on several other responsibilities and successfully led the Return to Office program for IT following the Covid pandemic, enhanced the client experience by improving the meeting room experience and developed the mainframe modernization strategy for Vanguard.

Prior to joining IT, Kim spent eight years in the Institutional Business in various roles, including leading the Business Management Office for Operations. She spent her first two years at Vanguard in Corporate Financial Services as a Financial Analyst.

Prior to joining Vanguard, Kim spent several years in the forensic accounting and business valuation industries, supporting multiple large scale court cases on the East Coast. Kim has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Drexel University and holds several certifications including Professional Agile Leadership.

Outside of work, Kim is married to her husband, Mike, and they have two daughters, Katelyn (17) and Veronica (14) and their son, Kevin (7). Kim enjoys home improvement projects, gardening, and spending time outside at the pool and beach during the summer. She enjoys being involved within her community and has served on the Board of Directors at St. Andrew’s Nursery School in Montgomery County, has held the role of the Vice President of the Home & School Association, and actively volunteers with various local organizations. She’s also made a meaningful impact in youth sports, coaching volleyball for Club Integrity and the varsity girls’ team at Mother of Divine Providence.
