Julie Klapstein was the founding CEO of Availity, the industry leader in optimizing the automated delivery of critical business and clinical information among healthcare stakeholders. Klapstein was the CEO and board member of Availity for 11 years. Julie selected and worked with her successor for five years and then retired from Availity in 2011.

 

Ms. Klapstein's 35+ years of experience in the health care information technology industry includes executive roles at Phycom, Inc as CEO, payer based IT systems for case management; interim CEO for Revecore, Revenue Cycle Management system for hospitals; Sunquest Information Systems (SVP), a laboratory information system for hospitals; SMS' Turnkey Systems Division Executive Director (now part of Siemens Medical Systems) and VP and General Manager of GTE Health Systems, hospital information system for mid-size hospitals. Her early career was with AT&T Information Systems for 10 years focusing on the healthcare industry primarily in sales, marketing and product management.

 

She currently serves on the board of directors of Amedisys (AMED), focusing on home health, hospice and high acuity care in the home; Claritev (CTEV) focusing on health analytics for payers and providers; Omada Health, focusing on digital health solutions for chronic conditions; Aptarro, Unislink and HCIM, delivering software, billing and compliance services in revenue cycle management. In December 2023, Julie became a Partner Advisor to al6z (Andreesen Horowitz). She is also on the advisory boards of private equity firms. Ms. Klapstein was a past director for four public boards: Oak Street Health (sold to CVS), Annies, Inc., NextGen and Standard Register Inc. and multiple private boards including eSolutions, a revenue cycle management company. Ms. Klapstein has chaired multiple board committees on public companies and is currently the Lead Director at Amedisys.

Klapstein earned her bachelor's degree from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. She is the recipient of multiple awards for top business leaders. In 2021 Julie was awarded the Healthcare Innovators Award, a lifetime achievement award, at the annual Healthcare Leaders Conference. She resides in Port Angeles, WA and Tucson, AZ. She enjoys hiking, horseback riding, skiing and biking.
