James Burch?eld serves as Veeam Software Group’s Vice President of Global Government Strategy. In this role, James oversees all aspects of the company’s strategic engagement with the US. federal government and foreign government partners. In addition to leading Veeam’s government affairs team, he guides Veeam’s government sales effort to help grow the federal business and ensures alignment between US national security priorities and Veeam’s Governance and Information Security (GIS) operations. James is a critical resource to Veeam’s Executive Leadership Team and supports key priorities across the business. 

With a professional foundation in foreign affairs and economic security issues, James has deep experience assisting American companies with complex government affairs issues. He has advised companies ranging in size from Fortune 100 to Silicon Valley startups and he is regularly called upon by senior level executives for guidance on issues related to supply chain security, critical infrastructure, and geopolitical events. James has developed and executed actionable strategies for leading software security companies, provided support for the reshoring of advanced manufacturing technologies, and helped identify major funding opportunities for companies in the rare earth and critical minerals industry. Moreover, James has a unique ability to understand the intersection between federal policy objectives and practical commercial operations.

Prior to joining Veeam, James was a principal with Williams & Jensen where he led the ?rm’s international affairs practice and advised clients on technology, cybersecurity, and supply chain issues. James also held several senior roles in Congressional of?ces and committees. He served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Subcommittee on Asia & the Paci?c where he focused on unconventional energy, trade, and cybersecurity. James also worked on the House Committee on Small Business where he spearheaded the Committee’s cybersecurity and supply chain security agendas to ensure America’s small businesses were protected from foreign adversaries. James also formerly served as a Senior Policy Adviser where he led the Member’s strategic policy agendas on foreign policy and cybersecurity and held a Top Secret Security Clearance.

James is currently a visiting fellow at the Antonin Scalia Law School’s National Security Institute. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and international affairs from Loyola University of Chicago and has received executive education from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in trade policy.
