Tom Riesenberg is the Director of Legal Policy and Outreach at SASB. He is the former Deputy General Counsel of Ernst & Young LLP responsible for regulatory matters, primarily involving the SEC and the PCAOB.
Tom worked at E&Y for more than 20 years. He handled dozens of lawsuits and regulatory investigations of the firm and its clients. He was the firm’s lead lawyer on legislative and regulatory developments, including the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the SEC and PCAOB auditor independence rules, auditing and accounting standards, the U.S. Treasury Department Advisory Committee on the Auditing Profession, the SEC Advisory Committee on Improvements to Financial Reporting, and corporate governance matters.
Prior to joining E&Y, Tom served for seven years as an Assistant General Counsel at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he primarily handled court of appeals and Supreme Court cases involving insider trading, broker-dealer regulation, financial fraud, SEC rulemakings, and other securities law matters.
Tom’s position with SASB is funded through a consulting arrangement with EY.
