Senior Vice President & Managing Director
Wexler | Walker
Tom Carpenter’s Washington career has spanned 13 years, beginning as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill. With strong ties to Conservative Republicans in the House and Senate, Tom offers strategic thinking, direct lobbying, coalition management and a wealth of policy expertise from financial services to healthcare, technology and the U.S. Postal Service.
At Wexler | Walker, Tom provides clients with an insider’s perspective and the skillset of a seasoned advocate. He serves both lobbying and non-lobbying clients to deliver results in Congress, within Federal Agencies, and to provide expert political intelligence and analysis.
In addition, Tom specializes in the representation of trade associations, and the development and leadership of policy coalitions. With many issue campaigns now under his belt, Tom understands the unique needs of clients who must answer to member interests and expectations rather than shareholders. In this capacity, he has served as Executive Director of the Coalition for Regenerative Stem Cell Medicine (CRSCM), Executive Director of the Hydrogen Advisory Council and as a policy counsel to the Postal Reform in the Public Interest coalition.
Tom is also active in Republican political circles; having served as a campaign field director in Pennsylvania for the Bush-Cheney campaign and as a Delegate for the Newt Gingrich Campaign in Washington D.C.
Tom joined Wexler | Walker in 2004 from the office of Former Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) where he served as Legislative Assistant. In that role, Tom served as chief advisor for Akin on telecommunications, international relations and social policy directives.
As a native Southerner, Tom grew up in South Carolina and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee where he received a degree in Communications. Tom lives on Capitol Hill in Washington DC with his wife and three children.
