The Committee for Economic Development of The Conference Board
Steve Odland is the president and CEO of the Committee for Economic Development of The Conference Board (CED). CED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, business-led, public policy organization that delivers well researched analysis and reasoned solutions to our nation’s most critical issues. CED’s research aligns to four pillars: fiscal health, education, global competitiveness, and democratic institutions.
Odland has a business background in consumer and retail sectors, having served as chairman and CEO of Office Depot, Inc. from 2005-2010; chairman, president and CEO of AutoZone, Inc. from 2001 until 2005; president and CEO of Tops Markets, Inc. from 1998 to 2000; president, foodservice division, Sara Lee Bakery from 1996-1998; and progressive positions at The Quaker Oats Company from 1981-1996. He served as an adjunct professor in the graduate schools of business at Florida Atlantic University and Lynn University from 2011 to 2012. Odland currently is a member of the Board of Directors of General Mills, Inc. and Analogic Corporation.
Odland’s public policy background includes: chairman of the Business Roundtable’s BRT’s Corporate Governance Task Force; US Presidential appointee as a Commissioner on the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission; US Presidential Appointee on the Council on Service and Civic Participation; member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation; member of the Advisory Council of the Institute for Corporate Ethics; Business Council; Florida Committee of 100; chairman of Memphis Tomorrow; the Buffalo Niagara Partnership; member of the board of trustees of The Conference Board.
