The Eurasia Group
Nicholas Consonery leads all China-focused analytic and consulting work at Eurasia Group. He specializes in economic and financial policies in mainland China and in regional geopolitics. He also drives broader Asia-related work for the company, including monitoring financial sector regulation throughout the region and conducting extensive reviews of corporate government affairs programs.
Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Nicholas worked as a political risk analyst in Washington, DC. In past positions he worked with the Foreign Commercial Service at the US Consulate in Shanghai, with a private equity firm in Tianjin, China, and also at the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. Nicholas appears frequently as an expert commentator for networks such as Bloomberg, CNBC, and Fox, and his research is often cited by mainstream media publications, including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
Nicholas holds an MA in Asian Studies from the George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs as well as a BA in Political Science and Asian Studies from Furman University. He received a David Boren Graduate Fellowship to attend Fudan University in Shanghai, where he studied Chinese public policy and economics. He also completed language training in China at the Shanghai International Studies University and at East China Normal University.
