Economist, and author
George Magnus is an independent economist, author and speaker. His most recent position was that of Senior Economic Adviser at UBS Investment Bank from 2005-2012, before which he was the Chief Economist (1997-2005).
Mr. Magnus' held prior senior positions at UBS before the merger with SBC, S.G. Warburg (1987-95), Chase Securities (1985-87), and Bank of America (1977-85). Previously he had held teaching posts at Westminster University and the University of Illinois. Mr. Magnus received an MSc Econ from the School of Oriental and African Studies, and did postgraduate research at the University of Illinois.
Mr. Magnus has long experience of analyzing the global economy and engaging with clients and the media. He is a regular contributor to the Financial Times and The Times, among others, and guest on BBC radio and TV, and Bloomberg TV. Mr. Magnus’ first book – The Age of Aging – a study of how demographics are changing the world, was published at the end of 2008. His second book, Uprising: will emerging markets shape or shake the world economy?, published in late 2010, examines controversially the prospects for emerging markets, the BRICs, and China in particular.
