Kathleen Stephansen

Kathleen Stephansen is Managing Director, Senior Investment Strategist and Global Head of Sovereign Research at AIG Asset Management. Her role is to develop thought leadership that helps shape investment decisions/strategies that meet the portfolio needs and maximize value given risk constraints. She and her team provide analyses and projections of macro trends and of sovereign credits that cover Advanced and Emerging Markets, Regional Governments, Agencies, and Supranational organizations. She also spearheads the Multi Asset Class discussion process underpins AMG Tactical Asset Allocation investment effort. Prior to joining AIG Asset Management, Kathleen was Chief Economist at Aladdin Capital Holdings, LLC, and had been Head of Global Economic Research at Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC from 2000 until 2009. And prior to 2000, she was co-head of the economic research department in the Fixed Income Division and Chief International Economist of the Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities Corporation. Kathleen currently serves on the Board of Directors and is the Treasurer for Economists for Peace and Security. She served as a Senior Advisor and task force member for the Asia Society in 2009-2010. She was the 2008-2009 President of the New York Association for Business Economics, and is a member of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), the Economic Club of New York and the Forecasters Club of New York. Additionally, she is a member of the YWCA Academy of High Women Achievers of the YWCA of New York City and she serves on the board of the Ms. Foundation for Women. She has joined the Editorial Board of the International Corporate Rescue Journal, and has served on the Council on Foreign Relations advisory committee on the Reform of the International Monetary Fund (Peter B. Kenen, Council Special Report, May 2007). She was a contributor to Flying on One Engine: The Bloomberg Book of Master Market Economists, (Thomas R. Keene, Editor, September, 2005). She published in the Bank For International Settlements (BIS) Papers: Housing Valuations (April 2005). Kathleen holds an undergraduate degree in economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), an MA in economics from the University of New Hampshire and PhD ABD from the London School of Economics (U.K.).
