Chairman and CEO
Klaus Kleinfeld is chairman and chief executive officer of Alcoa, a world leader in the production and management of aluminum. He joined the company in 2007 as president and chief operating officer, and seven months later assumed CEO responsibilities. He has served on Alcoa’s board of directors since 2003 and was named chairman in April 2010.
Before Alcoa, Kleinfeld spent 20 years with Siemens based in the U.S. and Germany, where he served as chief executive officer of Siemens AG. Prior to his service on the managing board of Siemens AG, Kleinfeld was president and chief executive officer of the U.S. subsidiary, Siemens Corporation.
In addition to serving on Alcoa’s board, Kleinfeld is a member of the supervisory board of Bayer AG. Kleinfeld is chairman of the U.S.-Russia Business Council (USRBC), which is dedicated to promoting trade and investment between the United States and Russia. He is a member of the board of trustees of The Conference Board and The Brookings Institution.
Kleinfeld was educated at the University of Goettingen and University of Wuerzburg, both in Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in strategic management and a master’s degree in business administration.
