Adi Ignatius is Editor at Large at Harvard Business Review. He took on that role last year after serving for 16 years as HBR’s Editor in Chief, where he led a period of sustained innovation and growth for the iconic brand. In the new role, Ignatius is spearheading HBR Executive, a new offering for C-suite leaders designed to help them tackle their toughest challenges. He also co-hosts HBR’s flagship IdeaCast podcast and serves as HBR’s public face.

Prior to joining HBR in 2009, Ignatius was the No. 2 editor at TIME, responsible for the magazine’s international and business coverage as well as special editions like TIME 100 and Person of the Year. He spent a day with Vladimir Putin in 2007, which became the basis of his cover article on Putin’s rise to power.

He is the editor and co-author of two New York Times bestselling books: President Obama: The Path to the White House and Prisoner of the State: The Secret Diaries of Premier Zhao Ziyang.

Ignatius lived and worked overseas for nearly 20 years, serving as Editor of TIME’s Asian edition and as The Wall Street Journal’s Bureau Chief in Beijing and Moscow.

He is President of Historic Stonington, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves or has served on the advisory boards of Foreign Affairs, The BCG Henderson Institute, The Wire, Climate & Capital Media, DocuSign, and Hult International Business School.

Ignatius graduated from Haverford College in 1981 with a BA in History. He also studied Chinese at Nankai University in Tianjin and was awarded a Zuckerman Fellowship to do Russian studies at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs. He attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, and he was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Maryland, Okinawa campus.
