Paulo da Costa

COO and Co-Founder
Commons Clinic

Paulo is Co-Founder and COO of Commons Clinic. He has over 20 years experience in healthcare services/ digital health as a mgmt consultant, strategist, operator, and executive. He is passionate about the true meaning of Value-Based Care – provider-risk bearing and rewarding good actors who deliver on quality and patient experience.

Outside of a short stint in life sciences consulting to Genentech and Celgene, he's been an early employee at 4 VC-/ PE-backed companies with two solid exits. In most of those roles, he was tasked with recruiting networks of community providers to give them the tools, technology, and process improvements to be successful under multiple VBC agreements that he negotiated.

Most notably, he was part of the executive team at Vantage Oncology that sold to McKesson/ USON for $550M in 2016. He was brought in to launch the VBC service line and ultimately be a part of the deal team leading its exit.

As the Executive overseeing ambulatory growth for Providence Los Angeles, he led the formation of multiple joint ventures with surgery centers and community-based surgeons. He also built tertiary programs at multiple campuses covering Complex Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and Cardiothoracic service lines.  This experience ultimately spawned the concept of Commons where site of service shift to surgery centers could scale with innovation and enhanced brand awareness.
