2009 China Sustainability Survey
Sustainability Practices of Multinational Corporations in China – What is the Status Quo and Where are We Heading?

With the Chinese government continuing to strengthen its commitment to environmental regulation and sustainable development – and the global warming imperative – it has become increasingly important for businesses in China to incorporate not only economic, but also environmental and societal performance metrics into their long-term business strategies.

In light of this, what sustainability management practices are currently being implemented in China to comply with regulatory requirements and key stakeholder demands? How is investment being calibrated and returns measured? And where do senior executives see key challenges to progress?

To gain a clearer picture of the current situation, The Conference Board China Center for Economics and Business is conducting a pioneer research project which includes a survey amongst global corporations with business operations in China.. If your company has business operations in China, we invite you to participate in this survey or forward this website to your most appropriate colleague in China and request them to participate.

To take part in the survey, please click here.

The results of this survey will give senior executives of multinational corporations (MNCs) a better understanding of comparative practices, and challenges and opportunities in China by shedding light on current sustainability reporting frameworks and measures and their application to current Chinese business realities.

Specifically, the focus of the survey is to answer the following key questions:

  • What are current priorities and focus areas of sustainability initiatives and practices for MNCs in China?
  • What business rationales, frameworks and performance measures are being used and how are they working?
  • What internal and external factors drive the sustainability agenda and who are the key stakeholders?
  • What do MNCs perceive to be the biggest challenges and opportunities for implementing a long-term strategic sustainability agenda in China?

Join the discussion and benefit from a customized read out of survey results

The survey should take just 10-15 minutes to complete. In return for your time you will receive –

  • In-depth analysis of the survey results including an exclusive customized report benchmarking your company’s views and business practices against those of other MNCs in China – coupled with inputs from other relevant Conference Board research programs in China – giving you unique insight into the opinions and perspectives of your peers, an understanding of commonalties and differences in business practice and sustainability orientations, as well as emerging benchmarks and best practices in China.
  • In addition, we invite your company to serve as one of our in-depth case studies which we will feature in our research publication (more information on how to participate in the case studies is included at the end of the survey).

Your answers and company information will be kept entirely confidential. No information that you submit will be identified with you or your company without your explicit permission.

This survey will close on October 15. To take part please click here. Alternatively, please forward this survey to an appropriate colleague who works most closely with sustainability issues in China and request them to participate.
