Human capital is no longer simply a means of competitiveness — it's now the means of competitiveness.

The Conference Board Research Working Group on Evidence-Based Human Resources will explore the empirical links between human capital and business performance. It will provide a forum for sharing best practices in evidence-based approaches with some of the leading thinkers in Human Capital Analytics. Most importantly, it will provide you with an opportunity to develop a disciplined understanding of the causal relationships between people strategies and organizational outcomes, allowing you to more effectively manage both your people and your business.

Beyond Traditional Benchmarking

An "evidence-based" approach to Human Capital Analytics is different from most others. This approach has the following distinct characteristics:

  • Evidence-Based Human Resources (EBHR) turns the traditional human capital equations of efficiency, effectiveness and ROI upside-down. Instead of seeking justification for the current human resources status quo, you look first at the financial and organizational performance measures that are most critical to your business. Then you look at the human capital strategies that empirically drive those outcomes.
  • An evidence-based approach represents a higher standard of proof for human capital impact than what most companies rely on (or that research-based consulting firms typically provide). By applying standards of evidence, you will be able to design human capital strategies that have predictive heft.
  • EBHR goes beyond traditional benchmarking or the use of dashboards. An evidence-based approach ensures the human capital metrics your company tracks, reports, and uses to make decisions are empirically linked to critical business performance outcomes.

Why Should you Join?

As a member of Research Working Group on Evidence-Based Human Resources, you will have the opportunity to work together with representatives from some of the world's leading companies in Human Capital Analytics. Also, you will participate in a first of its kind study seeking to determine the key operational and financial performance measures (or metrics) that are used by companies that use predictive modeling as the core of their Human Capital Analytics strategies. The study will also feature best practices in the use of evidence-based approaches to Human Capital Analytics.

Who Should Join?

Research Working Group participants should be senior-level executives or analysts centrally involved in the development of their company's Human Capital Analytics strategies. While HR executives typically lead most companies' Human Capital Analytics strategies, it is anticipated that group members will also include executives from Finance, Operations, or Marketing.

Research Working Group Schedule

The Conference Board Research Working Group on Evidence-Based Human Resources will meet three times in person and twice via Web conferences over the course of nine months.

Participation fee: $9,000 for Associate Members of The Conference Board
