The Conference Board's New Research Working Group on Engaging Your Global Workforce is being formed because companies increasingly understand that employee engagement is a vital tool for improving customer service and loyalty, recruiting and retaining more and better talent, and maintaining a competitive advantage in their respective markets. The research clearly demonstrates the relationship between engagement and customer engagement, individual and team performance, and overall enterprise-wide financial health. And beyond the numbers, at a gut level, there is an deep understanding that harnessing and focusing the imaginations and passions of their employees drive revenues and the bottom line. However, engagement is particularly difficult for large, global companies. Not only does the size and complexity of the organization make it difficult for the individual to connect with the organization, but organizations themselves are challenged with the struggles between global and local cultures. Unfortunately, the efficiency of a one-size-fits-all approach to developing employee engagement strategies loses its impact when it encounters the cultural complexity of a global workforce. Thus, we are undertaking this Working Group on Engaging a Global Workforce specifically to help you and your organization better understand what is common across the globe, what is distinctive to particular geographies or contexts, and what does and does not work in these contexts. This one-year project will validate the commonalities of engagement drivers across the globe and highlight the differences among four major geographies: Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. It will also go deeper to find the most effective tactics to building a global corporate culture that encourages employee engagement in each of these regions. Given the specific nature of this research, we are only inviting select large, global organizations to participate.
