Managing Reputation Risk:
Creating solutions to evaluate and manage your company’s reputation risk

Inaugural meeting: January 22–24, 2008

Host: The Conference Board, 845 Third Avenue, New York, NY

As a member of the Managing Reputation Risk Research Working Group, you will develop a framework to assess reputation risk across an organization's operations, functions, practices and policies. Building a greater understanding of reputation risk will help the group construct an approach to assess this overarching corporate threat. This assessment tool should enable companies to:

  • Recognize red flags of reputation exposure
  • Provide a roadmap for strengthening risk management in particularly vulnerable areas
  • Highlight critical areas in need of resources to effectively manage risks that can damage reputations
  • Learn how to proactively manage elements of their reputations

Issues on the table

A vital part of this Research Working Group is the opportunity to participate in candid and confidential discussions about effectively managing and anticipating risk. Potential questions to be addressed include:

  • What kinds of proactive steps should companies take to augment their reputations?
  • What aspects of reputation risk are unmanageable?
  • Who are the key players in managing a company's reputation?
  • How should a company's organization reflect its interest in preserving and enhancing its position? What level of risk assessment is expected and how should companies approach this task?
  • How can a company identify key risks, analyze their root causes, and take proactive steps to preserve the corporate reputation?
  • How can a company's regular risk assessment process help to point out particularly critical areas that could affect reputation?
