Engaging Employees Across Generations in an Economic Downturn There is now a compelling and growing body of evidence that links successful employee engagement with essential business measures such as greater customer loyalty, lower talent turnover, and even enterprise-level financial performance. At the same time, companies are facing the challenges associated with the maturing workforce. In addition to the expected issues associated with the maturing workforce such as succession planning and knowledge transfer, the changing nature of how work gets done increasingly demands that employees of all ages work collaboratively, build relationships, and maintain interpersonal networks. As part of The Conference Board's ongoing research on employee engagement and its global dynamics, this group will empirically explore whether the differences between "Baby Boomers," "Gen-Xers," and "Millennials" actually exist. Together we will discover whether employees of different ages engage with their jobs, their colleagues, their managers, and their companies in distinctly different ways or whether they are more similar than current literature presents.
