Understanding Carbon Cap and Trade Markets-What Managers Need to Know
Release Date: February 2009
ID: V-0294-09-CH
There is broad anticipation that the Obama Administration will advance numerous climate initiatives including consideration of a new carbon "cap-and-trade" scheme that stands to impact many U.S. companies and industries. In such a scheme, government sets a cap on total allowable carbon emissions, and companies and other carbon emitters receive emissions permits that they can use or trade. While cap-and-trade schemes already operate or are coming on line in the European Union, Australia, and New Zealand, they remain little known in the U.S except in some regional markets. This webcast will introduce managers to the fundamentals of cap-and-trade schemes, outline how such a system might work in the United States, and identify the business significance that the choice of this system holds for companies with large or small exposures to carbon risk.
This webcast will discuss:
Panelists:
Terence Donnelly, Head of Carbon Emissions and Environmental Markets, Bloomberg L.P.
Dick Morgenstern, Senior Fellow, Resources for the Future
Moderator:
David J. Vidal, Director, Center for Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability, The Conference Board
