In recent years India has enjoyed an extraordinary period of rapid growth that arises from radical restructuring of the economy. As a consequence the demand for skilled workers has risen significantly. India and China together represent 40 per cent of the World's supply of labor. However, companies that have offshored production to India feel shortages of skilled labour. India's National Association of Software and Service Companies has warned that though 3 million students graduate from Indian universities each year, only about 25% of engineering graduates and 10-15% of general college graduates are considered suitable for employment in the IT sector. The Indian government has announced a massive investment in higher education.
